Self-Reflection

When reviewing my writing I notice a common flaw - I have trouble bringing a writing to life. I believe I struggle with focusing on a single moment and having the reader visualize it. I need to work on not being so general and actually show the reader what i am trying to convey. I think my grammar is better and word choice is acceptable, but actually conveying a message to the reader is where I need work. In the future I plan to give the reader better descriptions and moments they can feel and understand my writings.

Friday night Lights (narrative)

A sea of orange, all gather on the far side on the bleachers next to the band. Each student yelling at the top of their lungs, red faced, all bunched together on the grey slippery bleachers. We are all anticipating an enjoyable game while waiting for the our team to kick the ball off to the opposing team. Its dark out, but the bright lights of the stadium illuminate the field, players, and fans - we all hope this years season will be better than the last.

Socrates cafe Reflection

The cafe was very engaging in seeing other peoples opinions and expectations on college (The topic was "why College"). The group went into multiple aspects upon college and I made a few necessary comments to further advance the conversation. I tried not to cut other students off and instead tried to engage students to get more viewpoints in the discussion.

My trip to Kings Island

When I went to Kings Island… I may or may not have dropped my phone off of a 300 ft. roller coaster. I could have avoided the situation by putting my phone in my brother’s bag but I decided that was “doing too much”. SO I get on the ride, happy and excited; putting my hands up before we go down the first drop and such. But when we arrive at the part of the roller coaster when it whips you around and pulls you a 180… my phone falls out my pocket and I have no idea. And when we get back at the station my brothers girlfriend Brittany, who was setting behind me tells me that my phone fell from my pocket… so I look down at my pocket, put my hand in it then vigorously check all my other pockets and notice my phone is nowhere to be found. So I’m like oh shit- my phone fell off a 300 foot roller coaster at kings island; I’m thinking to myself I will have to DM someone on twitter just to have a conversation. So we are leaving the roller coaster to go look at the pictures and I’m pissed I don’t even care about how the picture came out.  So we look at the pictures and we see Brittany behind me, bent over reaching below her seat for my phone. It’s kind of funny but I really don’t care because I’m thinking about if my dad is going to kill me or not when I get home. However to make a long story short – gods knows how but after telling the people there to look out for my phone, they found it and mailed it back about a month later and I’m still using the same phone till this day.

Poem on Success

A Poem about Success and Failure

“The test of man is the fight he makes,

The grit that he daily shows;

The way he stands on his feet and takes

Fate’s numerous bumps and blows,

A coward can smile when there’s naught to fear,

When nothing his progress bars;

But it takes a man to stand up and cheer

While some other fellow stars.

It isn’t the victory, after all,

But the fight that a brother makes;

The man who, driven against the wall,

Still stands up erect and takes

The blows of fate with his head held high:

Bleeding, and bruised, and pale,

Is the man who’ll win in the by and by,

For he isn’t afraid to fail.

It’s the bumps you get, and the jolts you’ll get,

And the shocks that your courage stands,

The hours of sorrow and the vain regret,

The prize that escapes your hands,

That test your mettle and prove your worth;

It isn’t the blows you deal,

But the blows you take on the good old earth,

That show if your stuff is real.”

-Napoleon Hill

I really enjoyed this poem and like this example of success because it gives character and shows those of achieve success go about their mission to success. It really defines the mind set and characteristics of those trying to achieve success and stop at nothing to achieve their success.

A Quote on Success

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why i succeed. - Michael Jordan

This quote of Michael Jordan really speaks to me because of his description of his failures only drove him to want more and achieve more for himself. His failures made him realize on what to focus on to improve his game and allows him to work harder to become the best.

My definition of Success

It can be described in many ways however, I see it as the state of which one person has reach their achievements and dreams; and to live in a comfortable state in which they feel they have accomplished their goals. The road to success may be very difficult and unclear however agreeing with the videos from TED, these 8 principles will provide a clear path to success: passion, work, focus, push, ideas, improve, serve, and persist. These principles are not only for the drive and completion of achieving success but will be necessary in maintaining success. Each principle must be addressed in order to achieve success and must always be used and never neglected. Success is based on ones ideas of their preferred lifestyle, and people base their lifestyle on their accomplishments and whether they have accomplished their dreams or not. Success may be different for every person but can be defined as that persons ideal life, and achievements.

The Road to Success

- this video confronts that the road to success will involve sacrifices, and will involve passion and determination.

Images on Success

-Steve Jobs saw success not based on his self achievements, it was about inspiring others by innovating people to create a change in the modern world.

- Success is not achieved by just following your dreams and believing you will just arrive there, but a conscious determination, passion, and many others principles to drive you to success.
